Truvada, the first FDA-approved antiretroviral medication to prevent HIV infection, splits people in fronts: those who are sure that Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis (PrEP) marks the end of the HIV/AIDS epidemic, those who swear the treatment in the long term will worsen HIV incidence in the community, those in between, those who know little to nothing about it and those who simply don’t care.

  1. As someone who has been on Truvada for a blood exposure from someone who claimed to be HIV+, it is not something you want to be on at all. It has horrible side effects that do not go away such as migraines and sensitivity to light. You will be in no mood for sex. I can not see why someone would want to take it instead of wearing a condom. Its a horrible poison to put in your system and its side effects do not balance out the loss of sensation or enjoyment of not wearing a condom. Wear your condoms gentleman!

    • I’m sorry you had such a reaction, but I’ve been on PreP for several months now with no side effects. I’m not exactly going around barebacking willy nilly, but I don’t use condoms for oral and I find the extra layer of protection a good reassurance.
