Midwest FurFest 2010

Last weekend I went to my first Furry Convention in Chicago at Midwest FurFest. Furries have never been a turn on but I absolutely love the fun vibe you get when you’re around somebody in costume.

We drove by the front of the hotel convention center and saw about 5 in costume hanging out (read that as COOLING DOWN). I think we all cheered from inside the car. A couple waved.

There was an instant feeling of excitement when you walked into the lobby and… BAM!   There they were. Dozens of them.

We decided to just go for one day so we could see the vendor market ($25 was a bit much to ask for entry) and the Parade.  The first person we saw, of course, was Reddy.

Many outsiders see a Furry and automatically think something Sexual is going on. I didn’t see anything sexual the entire time we were there nor were there any sexual advances toward me. (Although there was one “blind puppy” there I think is incredibly cute). There was sex going on in the hotel rooms but nobody was sexual in the market, lobby, etc. Bummed I couldn’t attend the unofficial Gear Party that was going on that night but I had a Shiatsu class in the morning.  Sometimes, I really hate being a responsible adult.

Personally, I can’t say that seeing a Furry is a turn on.  But, then again, I haven’t tried on a costume.  I didn’t think Neoprene would be so fun and sexy to wear until I tried it on.  Somebody should help me out with this problem.

I’ve been to many different kinds of conventions. From Kink events, to Metaphysical/Physic events (Mom’s a High Wiccan Priestess) to Comic Book conventions. With the Furry Convention, I noticed one thing they all seem to have in common. Nearly everyone there has a bit of insecurity or awkwardness about themselves… but it’s all respected and pretty much dismissed as everyone is all there for the same reason. Same interests. The ice has already been broken. Where they might not feel comfortable other times of the year, here they are with their People… just like when I go to a Kink event. I seriously have never been to any event where I didn’t feel like I was in the middle of one Giant Colorful Furry HUG.

Many thanks to Reddy & Co for being our tour guides for our first Furry Con.   We had a great time.     And we’re still pulling fur off our clothes.   LOL!

  1. Hey, I’m like you. Don’t really get it. But far be it from to judge! You gotta admit, happy kinky people are just plain infectious. And if I was stuffed into one of those suits and paraded about, hmmmmmm….

I live about two miles from the DragonCon festival here in Atlanta but each year I have to work that weekend (it is the complete story of my life–ALWAYS working on the big event weekends). I have soooooo wanted to just park on bench somewhere and be a 100% voyeur. Well, until the Spartans come along and drag me off……

  2. Glad you guys came out to the Convention and sorry you couldn’t make it to the room parties.

The $25 single-day registration can seem a bit expensive, but you’ve got to spend the entire day there, check out the panels and dances and everything else.

Will have to catch ya around more!
