SOLO BONDAGE: Okay, now that was DUMB.

Besides posting sexy photos and videos on this blog, I also want to share experiences in hopes they will help others. So, here’s one that happened recently.

It had been well over a month since I had any bottom time so my other half and I planned an intense scene last weekend. I was to be in the steel cage when he arrived home for starters.

Now, I REALLY, REALLY, REALLY get off on a D/s scene that is as realistic as possible. I’m also visually stimulated by gear. When I can be hooded for a period of time(in a cage or chained to a wall) without seeing the person in control, or the gear he/they are wearing, it’s just that much sexier. When I’m rewarded vision after making the Top’s approval, Man… what an incredible turn on.

Making this scene that much more fun, I decided that the hood I was wearing let in too much light despite the snap on blindfold. I wanted zero possibility of seeing the man in control. So, I took some PVC tape and taped over the eyes. Total darkness. Awesome. I then got into the steel cage, locked it, put the posture collar on, then shackled my ankles and hands with Hiatt Restraints behind my back.

As I sat there for a few minutes (time’s always slower for me while in bondage), I realized that the posture collar wasn’t really going well with the heavy hood. And… I was having trouble breathing.

A little panic. Not the good kind either as my other half wasn’t to be home for a good hour later.

I DID manage to pull the snap off mouth piece from the hood to get more air but again the posture collar was too much. He arrived home shortly after and removed the posture collar which loosened my airway. Then I was fine for another couple hours.

So, my mistake here was clearly that I underestimated how much air comes through the EYE piece of the hood…. a hood I’ve had for 10 years. And, the posture collar’s strap wasn’t long enough for the hood so… it was too tight.

YES, I knew better. There’s no excuse for overlooking something that is potentially life endangering. I should have through it through better. But, I was horny and stupid. I was lucky my partner arrived home on time without any delays… such as … a car accident?

Now, my mistake isn’t as bad as others I’ve heard. There have been many Fatal Result of Solo Bondage scenes where a person was playing with Bondage, Poppers and a Gasmask…. and the bottle spilled and accidentally killing the person involved because he couldn’t get away from he Vapors. And then there’s Michael Hutschensen of INXS who reportedly killed himself during Self Asphyxiation when he slipped on the floor (or stool?) and couldn’t stand back up to loosen the noose (also called “Scarfing“).

As a sidenote, I’ve purposely NOT played with some top men because I know their Big Thing is to leave a boy in bondage for hours and hours without supervison. There’s a certain amount of trust (a lot) that must be established before this is even considered. I had one bad scene in my time as a Leatherman. I do not want another.

I don’t recommend Solo Bondage to everyone. The next time I do a scene like this or even consider putting somebody in Long Term Bondage, I will certainly think back to this experience, I will step back and think “how can I make this safer? Am I missing anything?”.

Do you have any experiences like this you’d like to share?

  1. yeah, last week through creative use of bungee cords and eyehooks, i managed to zip myself completely up in a heavy rubber sleepsack(arms inside the sleeves and all).

the first hour was hot. him arriving home two hours after that (late day at work) was not. i had to pee, i was dehydrated from sweating in the rubber so long, and my legs were beginning to cramp. lesson learned. i’m glad i didn’t gag or hood myself too!

  2. glad you ok, must have been scary. Had a scene about five years ago during my bottom time. Hood was too tight and couldn’t breathe, took ages (or so it seemed)for top to come in to the room and loosen hood!! Was very much in a panic by then!

    Play safe, especially when alone.

  3. I used to use an X-10 timer/clock and a variable-speed drill as my release mechanism. The drill was set to a very slow speed so that it could unwind the string that my keys were attached to, and the keys were hung from the ceiling. There were “only” two times when things went wrong. Both times I had gagged myself and locked myself spreadeagled face up on my bed.

At the time of the first scary experience, I had two small kittens. Quite sensibly, I locked them out of the room before securing myself. But just a few minutes into the experience, there were the kittens, and they thought the string from the drill up to the ceiling was fascinating. I shouted through the gag and thrashed about, but they were not impressed. Eventually they went to play with something else, and fortunately they had not ruined my setup. When the appointed time came, the drill started up and the keys came down to my hand.

My apartment had a wall heater which radiated both into my bedroom and the living room. It turned out that there was a gap under the heater, and the kittens were able to wiggle through.

The second time was virtually the same setup. This time, all was going well, and the drill started unwinding right on schedule. The keys came down and I reached up, but I decided not to grab until there was slack in the line. One of the keys touched the tip of my finger. Then the string reversed and the keys climbed up to the ceiling and stayed there.

The first thing I did was entirely irrational and stupid, but I pulled as hard as I could against my bonds with all four limbs, thus tightening any knots involved (my wrist cuffs were attached to chains, which were attached to the bed with rope. The chains were so I could lock on with padlocks and move the knots out of reach).

After my initial panic, I told myself that I was still alive and wasn’t in a race against time, so I could take time to think. I realized that at worst I would be utterly humiliated, because I could knock on the wall and shout, eventually getting the attention of the marine next door (or his wife or one of his kids).
So I started carefully examining my situation.

Fortunately for me, I had not done a good job of judging the lengths for my chains or ropes. By stretching out to the utmost, I was actually able to reach one of the knots attached to the end of a chain with my left hand. Of course, the knot was very tight because I had just yanked on it as hard as I could a minute ago, but I was nevertheless able to untie it in about 15 minutes.

When I examined the drill, I found that there was a very small divot in one of its cutting edges. Just as I was about to grab the keyes, a strand of the string snagged on this divot, and then it started winding instead of unwinding.

That was the last time I used the drill or the X-10 timer for a release mechanism. Also, I now avoid arrangements where I’m completely secured to one spot. Complete immobility is hot, but now I settle for arrangements where I can go to my tool chest if I have to, and ruin some nice equipment from Mr. S to get free.

  4. All i can say is you were lucky, i like solo bondage scenes but always make sure airways and breathing is ok before the cuffs go on.

Yes its nicer when the top makes u more secure and controls breathing etc. But safety always comes first.

Glad it worked out though 🙂

  5. I haven’t had an experience as intense as yours, but it is very important to think things through completely and test your ideas before proceeding and locking things. I was once playing with some chains and many padlocks. I ended up the floor, with my neck, hands and feet locked in chains to the bed frame. The bed frame is a platform welded into a square shape. No way to open it. Everything was fine until I decided to toss the keys acros the room, so that they would be just in my reach. They landed exactly where i wanted them to. when I went to reach for them I realized that I had connected another padlock and couldn’t get anywhere near the keys. I was really stuck, and had many hours until anyone would be home. I found a box of computer cables that was being stored under the bed, lucky me, and was able to toss the cable and snag the keys. It took about 30 minutes of very intense concentration to get the keys over to me. It’s easy to get carried away… I learned my lesson.
