“MANHOLE” Party in Chicago

SATURDAY, APRIL 13, 2013

Featuring DJ Ted Eiel

$10 Must be in gear of choice or shirtless to enter Red Bar.

All men, all ages, all shapes, all scenes are welcome. MANHOLE was a nightclub located in the space where HYDRATE currently operates that closed in 2002. MANHOLE events are to honor the spirit of the former club and provide a dance floor for those who may not enjoy the typical dance club scene.

“Few Boystown spots have enjoyed as much thump in the night as the former Manhole, a late-night club with a low-key front room and a cruisy, dress-code-enforced back bar—a place where button-down boys let loose during its legendary blackout and underwear parties.” – J. Heidemann, Time Out Chicago

Remembering “Rubber Jason”

I met Jason twice.  Once during MIR last year when I saw him running between interviews and gave him a compliment about the Green Lantern fantasy he gave on Friday night.  Fans of the Green Lantern comics are going to appreciate this more than others. From what I could tell, he had put lighting over his Green Lantern latex catsuit and then placed transparent latex over that. His fantasy was read aloud while he was on stage. The lights on his suit made him glow a bright emerald GREEN… until that moment of ecstasy when they glowed RED.  It was very, very creative and everyone was impressed.  I’ve never seen anyone do anything like that before with Latex.
Genius
Catching him real quick to say hello the following day, I gave him the compliment.  You could tell he was flustered from the stress of being a contestant.  The look on his face changed to a big smile… and then he just hugged me.  I didn’t know the guy and this was a long and warm hug.  “Thank you”.   I just thought… Wow.  What a sweet man.
That sort of openness, the ability to let your guard down and be appreciative of others,  can be a difficult thing for some people to do at times.   Those two minutes together left an impression on me.  Seriously, the world needs more people like Jason.
The second time we met was after MIR where we briefly ways to promote the Rubber Community in the New England area, events he involved in or planning and was to continue to promote MIR.  We kept in touch to do so and he was always the sweet heart electronically, too.
The Chicago Rubbermen’s “Pup Boomer” has put together a bar night on March 1st to Celebrate the Life of Jason on March 1st.   Facebook Event Page below.   While I will be in Saint Louis for Mr Missouri Leather weekend, I will be thinking of Jason and his partner Stephen as I put on my Rubber and Green Lantern ring this weekend.
